Today, Adrien Samson's point of view, our Director of Operations.
What concrete impact do OGGA solutions have on reducing energy consumption?
Eco-Touch means you don’t have to worry about programming the thermostat. You tell it when you’re there and when you’re not, and it automatically adjusts the temperature in your home.
Anyone who has ever spent time programming a conventional thermostat knows that you don’t make the effort to change the settings when you’re away for a few days or come home late. So the thermostat stays in comfort mode more often than it should. The switch makes it possible to save on heating at these times.
What major changes have you seen in our industry since 2000?
The world of construction and residential heating in particular has been marked by various thermal regulations, including RE2020, which requires new homes to be increasingly energy-efficient. But this only applies to new-build properties… for older properties, we had to wait for the introduction of a ban on renting out heat-insulating flats. Even if, for the time being, these thermal flats are tending to disappear from the rental stock, they will end up being renovated and rented out again.
What tool or technology do you think has most transformed our business over the last 25 years?
In my line of work (which was originally web development) it was obviously Web 2.0 and the arrival of Wikipedia that was the turning point. We moved from content written by webmasters to content created by users. This revitalised web technologies, making it possible for anyone to post a photo on the Internet.
And this has become even more important with the democratisation of smartphones and mobile applications. Without smartphones, home automation would have remained limited to remote controls.
How do you think our sector will evolve between now and 2030?
New homes will be virtually passive, requiring very little heating. But other homes, even if they’ve been renovated, will still need heating, and smart thermostats can help reduce the distance, so that occupants don’t have to worry about it.
